BEAUTIFUL OOPS

Recently, my son started to really, really enjoy doing art: coloring, painting, making various crafts, you name it. But with all this surge of creativity comes… a real deal of frustrations the second he makes a mistake (think choosing the wrong color or bending his piece of paper). Yikes.

So, one evening after he went to bed, I was book-browsing and I found this book, Beautiful Oops. I tought to myself: wow, this is what I was looking for!

Beautiful Oops is all about creativity, but always starts out with a mistake: a smudge, a drop of paint, a stain, bent paper… Barney Saltzberg gets us to think outside the box, but mostly, to have fun with our mistakes. Lots of flaps makes reading this book very interactive.

Since reading this book, my son still gets frustrated (it’s a work in progress, haha), but now finds a way to pause and think how to use his mistake as an advantage for his drawing or craft. We always have our Beautiful Oops book nearby while doing arts and crafts: it really is great inspiration!

Does your child get mad when he or she makes a mistake while doing arts and crafts?
